Azure
"Azure" is a tranquil, fluid composition for flute and piano, inspired by the shimmering depths of water and the endless hues of blue. The flute's gentle, flowing melodies ripple like waves on a calm sea, while the piano's soft, rolling harmonies evoke the peaceful motion of water beneath a clear sky. As the piece unfolds, there’s a subtle tension, like the pull of ocean currents beneath a glassy surface. The interplay between flute and piano mirrors the dance of light on water, creating a serene yet emotionally charged atmosphere, reminiscent of the deep, reflective nature of the ocean.
The extended techniques within the piece should enhance these emotions.
The tonality of the piece takes inspiration from impressionistic styles, painting in chord colours as well as non-functional harmonic moments centred around A Lydian.
